Chemistry enhanced towards perfection since the beginning of the 19th century. This century produced great scientists who could derive results from observation, reasoning and experimentation. This century was marked by the development of Dalton's Atomic theory. Dalton (1766-1844 AD) was a school teacher in Britain.
A Swedish scientist - Berzelius (1799-1844 AD) gave chemical
symbols to elements and discovered the Atomic weights of many elements. Faraday (1791 1867AD) worked on the effects
of electricity on solutions.
A German scientist (Wohler 1800-1822 AD) made urea from inorganic materials for the first time and paved the way for the production of organic compounds in laboratories on a large scale. Van't Hoff, Raoult and Ostwald contributed in the field of solutions towards the end of the 19th century and made rich contributions to physical chemistry.
The Russian scientist, Mendalcev worked on the classification of elements in 1869. He succeeded in classifying the elements in the form of periodic table Curie discovered Radio - Activity in 1897. Thomson, Rutherford (1911) and Bohr (1913) rendered rich contribution to chemistry and gave lasting knowledge about the structure of atom. In the 20th century, the chemists have explored the chemical bases of life called biochemical technology. The 20th century has given us a large number of industrial products and chemicals which have greatly facilitated human life in the modern age.
